Granada has one of Spain's most distinctive flamenco traditions — rooted in the Sacromonte cave district. Granada's flamenco style, called zambra, developed in the Romany (gitano) community's cave dwellings above the Darro river, creating a tradition distinct from Seville or Jerez.
Play Granada sells tickets to an authentic flamenco show in the Sacromonte cave venues. Partner-operated with supplier cancellation terms. Intimate setting — a whitewashed cave, a guitarist, singer, and dancer. Evening performance in Spanish (no translation required to appreciate the art).
Sacromonte cave shows are the most authentic option — small venues, historically significant setting. Larger tourist theatre shows exist in the city centre for audiences of 200+. Free peñas flamencas (local clubs) hold irregular public sessions — ask at our office for current schedules. Dinner-and-show packages are available at some restaurants but often overpriced compared to booking separately.
Getting to Sacromonte takes 20 minutes on foot uphill from the city centre, or a short taxi ride. No language required to appreciate flamenco. Shows run most evenings; check availability in low season. Comfortable walking shoes recommended for the Sacromonte approach.
